SALMAN KHURSHID Mentor

The Foundation is indeed fortunate to have in Mr. Salman Khurshid a guide and a mentor. His vast experience in education, both inside government and in the voluntary sector is a valuable asset in our unique endeavour. As the Head Boy of Delhi Public School, Mathura Road and top alumnus of the school, he remains an icon for succeeding generations of Dipsites. His fifteen years as President, Delhi Public School Society, saw exponential growth of schools making the Society a landmark in school education.

Mr Khurshid distinguished himself at St Stephen’s College, Delhi University (BA Hons) and St Edmund Hall, Oxford (MA, BCL Juris) before teaching Jurisprudence at Trinity College, Oxford. Upon return to India he worked as OSD to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi before joining the Bar at the Supreme Court of India where he is at present a Senior Counsel. His association with Oxford continues as Honorary Fellow of St Edmund Hall.

Grandson of India’s Third President, Dr Zakir Husain and son of late Governor of Goa and Karnataka, Mr Khurshid Alam Khan, Salman Khurshid has been Minister of Corporate Affairs, Minority Affairs, Water Resources, Law & Justice, and External Affairs. He has several books to his credit including the play, ‘The Sons of Babar’

CHAIRPERSON’S THOUGHTS

Our Indian standard of education is excellent. Our students are amongst the best in the world. They score high on marks – to the extent of securing even 100% in English! But can we truly say that our children are well rounded? Not just masters of marks but also fluent in languages, communication and general knowledge? Have they developed team spirit and qualities of leadership? Do they see beyond the confines of their school and home to recognize inequalities around? Can they hold their own in public debates or present themselves admirably in an interview?

This is a challenge that we at the Delhi World Foundation have taken up in earnest. The wealth of knowledge and experience of our Life Trustees, Term Trustees, Advisory Council and Members of the Education & Resource Council is being harnessed to open students’ eyes to all the wonderful things that the world has to offer.

In simple words we want them to be children, leading an exciting child’s life and not be forced to become premature adults! Please join us and be part of our new adventure full of wonder and care.

Education surrounds us. To create and help develop the ability to absorb it from the surroundings is the key fundamental responsibility of our School. Therefore the school environment should be made congenial enough such that the give and take process is a smooth and easy one.

The facilitators at DWPS Barasat create the yearning for knowledge. In the world of today when every individual is keen on establishing rights first, education is the key to unlock such ego. Empowered individuals do not have to fight for their rights. It comes in the same way as respect, which is earned not demanded.

As awakeners, the teachers at school are the bridges over which they invite the students to cross, then having facilitated joyfully and encouraging them to create their own.

The educators of the institution are the gardeners nurturing young minds enabling them to develop firm roots to be able to carry the noble vision and mission of education forward.
